News from the Artist

Welcome to the News page, where you can catch up with the latest information and happenings in the world of Karenart!

10/07/2010

Its been quiet from me of late, but its only because there has been lots happening in the world of karenart! I have been busy with lots of projects over the last few months. I have been working hard on an exciting commission to design a fabric pattern for American company Pansy Maiden. Laura at Pansy Maiden is a talent...ed woman who designs and makes her own bags. But not just any old bags.... Beautiful handbags, fabulous oversized weekend bags, dainty little clutch bags, and my current favourite, the brand new must have custom made change bag. Who says style has to go out the window once you have a baby in tow? The best part is that all Laura's bags are cruelty free and ethically sound. To read more about Laura and the Pansy Maiden brand, visit her website at Pansy Maiden. Say hi from me while you are there! I can't reveal what the finshed fabric looks like yet as Laura wants to keep it underwraps until she has made something using it. Watch this space!

The second big project I have been working on is more than a little different! If you have been following my status updates you will already be familiar with Gully.... I was lucky enough to get involved with an arts project taking place all over Weston this summer. 40 brightly painted donkey sculptures will be taking to the streets of Weston, and I was commissioned to paint one. If you haven't already seen him, pop on over to Grove Park at the top of the high street and go say hello. If you head for the bandstand, you really can't miss him. For more updates, check out www.donkeyparade.co.uk, or check back here where I will post information on the sculpture trail when I know more about where all the donkeys will be placed. At the end of November, the donkeys will be auctioned off to raise money for Chidren in Need and weston Lifeboats. (if anyone would like to give me the best Christmas pressie ever, why not bid on him, wrap him up and put him under my christmas tree. Not only would you be supporting worthwhile charities, you would save me from being separated from him forever. Sigh! I am rather fond of Gully.....)

Its now time for me to throw myself into getting work ready for my show in September at Loves Cafe in Weston-super-Mare with Camilla Stacy. I will keep you posted on when the opening night will be, and will remind you of dates closer to the time. Love x

30/03/2008 My studio is now based in the Q Gallery in Weston-super-Mare as of April 2008. Following my successful exhibition last year I was offered studio space at the gallery when a slot became available. The gallery holds an open studio on the first and last Saturday of every month which gives members of the public the chance to view the artists in residence studio space.

Art work on display in the studio is for sale as marked.

05/11/2007 The exhibition has now closed. A massive thank you to everyone who came along to see it and especially those who have purchased a piece of work. The 'Sold Work' page has now been updated with information on the sales. Pieces that have not sold, and some others that were not in the exhibition are still available in the 'Gallery'.

20/10/2007 The exhibition has been extended for 1 week! It will now close on Sunday 4th November. If you have not been able to come along yet you have an extra week to try to make it, please remember to sign the guest book!

The exhibition has also been covered by the local newspaper, the Weston and Somerset Mercury. The story can be found here.

12/09/2007 The dates have been set for my first solo exhibition.

Entitled 'Fertile Ground', it will run from Saturday 6th until Friday 25th October at the Q Gallery in Weston-super-Mare.

Directions to the venue can be found here.

02/04/2007 The next round of the Saatchi Gallery competition has begun, and my second painting can be found here and voted for for 1 week.

19/03/2007 I have currently created an online gallery on the Saatchi Gallery website, in order to generate more exposure for my work. As part of this, one of my paintings is being featured in a competition entitled "Showdown", where artists who have work on the site are able to enter a piece of art for visitors to score, and spotlight their work to as wide an audience as possible. The artwork that receives the most votes will go on to be exhibited at The Saatchi Gallery in London, and stands to win the one thousand pound first prize!
